A FREE Market called the Queer Mercado is composed of LGBTQ+ creators, vendors, and artists and is held on the 3rd Saturday of each month in East Los Angeles 10 am – 4 pm in the parking lot of the Hilda L. Solis Learning Academy at 319 North Humphreys Avenue at Cesar Chavez Boulevard.
On August 20, 2022, the market celebrated its first anniversary and featured live performances, drag performers, DJs, over 100 food vendors, and local artists.
Cast members from a CASA 0101 production of Arena: A House Music-al appeared in an ARENA Stage Takeover. Preston Gonzalez Valle, Luis Ceja, Milton David, Chrissi Erickson, and Amy Melendez performed musical excerpts from the show with Daniela Hernandez as the narrator.
The show’s costume designers Jules Bronola, Tony Iniguez, Robert Ortiz of Royal Rubbish, and Bad Burro by Jose Huizar, also participated in the event and hosted a fashion show.
The Queer Mercado is the first permanent FREE LGBTQ+ marketplace in Southern California. Its mission is to support, uplift, and celebrate new businesses and talent in and around East Los Angeles and to provide opportunities to promote and elevate their brands, art, and innovative ideas to ensure their success.
The purpose of the market is to provide a safe and welcoming environment for LGBTQ+ members of the community to participate in but is also a fun and entertaining event for anyone who wants to attend in the area.
