I attended an Elvis-themed pop-up bar in downtown LA. It featured a replica of the iconic Jungle Room from Elvis Presley’s Graceland in Memphis. It was called Love Me (Bar) Tender, a collaboration between Memphis Tourism and Graceland.
The pop-up travels to other cities to promote Memphis Travel. Although it
was only in L.A. for two nights it is a good example of pop-up events that take
place regularly in Los Angeles. Stay tuned to my current events page for more
pop-up announcements.
At the Elvis pop-up V.I.P. event I attended, we enjoyed retro nostalgia, themed drinks, and
Memphis music and food. The funny thing was I was probably the only person in
attendance alive when Elvis was still on the planet. But it
shows that his memory lives on with the younger generation.
About the Jungle Room
Elvis designed a room at his Graceland mansion called the Jungle Room where he and his friends could relax. In typical 1970s style, it had a green shag carpet, tiki bar, rock waterfall, and retro furry furniture. It reminded him of his time filming in Hawaii.
The room is where Elvis recorded songs including “Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain” and “Moody Blue” for what became known as the Jungle Room sessions.
If you visit Memphis, you can see Elvis’s original Jungle Room at Graceland.
Truly LA
The pop-up took place at Truly LA, short for Truly Hard Seltzer. It is in the L.A. Arts District downtown next door to Angel City Brewery. On normal nights they serve flavored alcoholic beverages using their branded hard seltzer, light snacks, and desserts. Often they also have live bands for entertainment.
The space hosts private events such as the Elvis pop-up and is a fun place to hang out if you are in the Arts District.
