The striking, spaceship-like building sits on a 13-acre campus designed with public green spaces. Inside, the museum displays a vast collection of over 40,000 works that erase traditional boundaries between fine art and popular media, combining paintings by masters like Norman Rockwell and Frida Kahlo with comic art, manga, illustration, and cinema archives from the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises.

Disney Fan Day at the Hilbert Museum
October 15, 2026
The Hilbert Museum of California Art has partnered with Mickey Visit to host “Disney Fan Day at the Hilbert with Mickey Visit’ featuring a full day of hands-on crafts, tours, artists’ lectures, and exclusive displays of some of the hundreds of Disney and Pixar movie and animation art, illustrations, original theme park art, and memorabilia in the Hilbert Collection.
The all-day Disney Fan Day on Oct. 15 represents the first operating day in the 10-year history of the Hilbert Museum to be dedicated to Disney art enthusiasts. Admission and all activities except the lecture are FREE, although reservations are required. Guests are encouraged to come in Disney costume.
Featured artists on display include Bradford Salamon; Disney and Pixar artist Jorgen Klubien; and Mary Blair, best known for her concepts for Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, and “It’s a Small World After All.”

Craft Contemporary Museum
Translation in Clay: Interspecies Poetics with Worm School
October 24 | 1:30 – 4:30 pm
Join artist collective and reading group Worm School at Craft Contemporary for an afternoon of conversation and experimentation with clay as a medium for language, translation, and memory. Seeding ourselves in the rich ground of Octavia Butler and Ursula K. LeGuin’s writings, we’ll explore interspecies poetry with clay as facilitator and translator, inviting participants to bring a glyph or mark made by another species, such as the patterning on collected shells, beetle bite marks, leaf skeletons, and anything that speaks life into the world.
Part workshop and part community performance, we’ll explore Octavia Butler’s concept of change in which ‘All that you touch You Change. All that you Change Changes you’ in a collaborative push-pull of reading, conversation, and co-creating vessels in which every hand will speak.
Participants will be provided with a reading packet before the workshop. Everyone will make collaborative ceramic sculptures to be fired and returned in a few weeks. Workshop open to all experience levels.
Maker in Residence: Jackie Amézquita
October 23 | 11 am – 5 pm
Catch the final day of Jackie Amézquita’s residency. The artist will be at work in the galleries shaping pebble sculptures from soil, masa, cacao, spring water, and copal, and visitors are invited to join her as co-creators in a practice rooted in Latin American epistemologies and ritual. Drop in any time during gallery hours. All ages welcome.

Be sure to visit the LA Metro Art exhibition “LA On the Move” in the Union Station Waiting Room. You can always take the L.A. Metro, Metrolink, and Amtrak trains to visit. It is a fabulous exhibit, and Union Station, Los Angeles, is so iconic. Take the L.A. Metro there if you can.

CicLAvia Pasadena

The City of Pasadena invites everyone to join CicLAvia—Pasadena on Sunday, November 15, from 9 am to 3 pm, in partnership with the nonprofit CicLAvia and funded in part by Metro.
CicLAvia is a nonprofit organization that has been opening streets throughout Los Angeles County for 16 years. It transforms city streets into car-free celebrations of community, connection, and possibility—places where participants can slow down, connect, and appreciate the city in a new way. CicLAvia reimagines our city streets as welcoming spaces for everyone—places to walk, run, roll, skate, cycle, gather, and enjoy the moment.
The 2.7-mile CicLAvia route includes Colorado Boulevard (Pasadena Avenue to Allen Avenue) and Raymond Avenue (Pacific Alley to Dayton St), forming a seamless corridor through Old Pasadena, Playhouse Village, South Lake Avenue, and connecting Metro’s Memorial Park and Del Mar Stations. Cars will be permitted to cross at six (6) key intersections across the CicLAvia route.
Two (2) activity hubs with community programming, services, and activities are located at Memorial Park and at Colorado Boulevard and Allen Avenue. Hubs offer free family-friendly activities, restrooms, free water refilling stations, free basic bike repair, bike parking, places to sit and meet up with friends and family, and first aid. Free pedicab rides are available at each hub’s information booth. This event is free.
Adrian: Designing Hollywood, Dressing America

Before Hollywood had stylists, it had Adrian.
He transformed Joan Crawford into a fashion icon, draped Jean Harlow in bias-cut glamour, and designed costumes for more than 200 productions — including
The Wizard of Oz. Then, in 1942, he took his talents beyond the studio lot, opening a couture salon on Wilshire Boulevard and bringing Hollywood style to
women across America.
ADRIAN: Designing Hollywood, Dressing America, now at the
ASU FIDM Museum in downtown LA, brings together more than 50 rare ensembles and accessories. Expect razor-sharp tailoring, dramatic silhouettes, flashes of surrealism and plenty of movie-star fantasy.
Meet the LA fashion maverick whose designs shaped both the silver screen and the way America dressed — and whose influence can still be spotted on runways
and red carpets today.
The exhibition is on view through December 12th,

Happening at the historic Ebell of Los Angeles
The Ebell of Los Angeles was founded in 1894 by women, dedicated to inspiring other women and building community. The current building (circa 1927) was designed by renowned architect Sumner Hunt. It is listed in the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The campus includes a grand dining room, art salon, courtyard garden, five stages and over 2,000 seats, including the 1,238-seat Broadway-style Wilshire Ebell Theatre.

If you haven’t been to a Candlelight Concert in Los Angeles, you don’t know what you’re missing. I attended one in Santa Monica, which you can read about here. You can enjoy 60 minutes of music in a candlelit setting, often in historic venues around the city.

Fairplex Oktoberfest, Pomona
October 2–17, 2026
Fairplex brings a little Bavaria to Pomona on Friday and Saturday nights with German-style food and beer, Oom-pah-pah music, dancing, and energetic tribute bands. This is a 21-and-over event, so it isn’t one for the grandchildren, but it could be a fun October night out for couples or groups of friends.
Beverly Hills Art Show
October 17–18, 2026
The free Beverly Hills Art Show transforms four blocks of Beverly Gardens Park into a large outdoor art fair featuring about 240 artists working in painting, photography, sculpture, jewelry, ceramics, glass and other media. Food trucks, live music, artist demonstrations, and a wine and beer garden make this much more than simply browsing art booths, and its location makes it easy to combine with lunch and a stroll around Beverly Hills.
Taste of Soul, Crenshaw District
October 17, 2026
The Taste of Soul is one of Los Angeles’ biggest free community festivals, filling historic Crenshaw Boulevard with food, music, vendors, and multiple stages of live entertainment. The festival celebrates Black culture and community in South Los Angeles and is a great choice for visitors who want to experience an energetic neighborhood event rather than a typical tourist attraction.
Día de los Muertos at Hollywood Forever
October 24, 2026
Hollywood Forever Cemetery hosts its 27th annual Día de los Muertos celebration from noon to midnight, with elaborate altars, a ceremonial procession, Aztec performers, art exhibitions, arts and crafts, food vendors, and a children’s plaza. This is one of the most visually spectacular cultural events of the year in Los Angeles and offers visitors a meaningful introduction to Day of the Dead traditions as well as an extraordinary evening experience.
Fleurs de Villes: The Gilded Age at Greystone
October 28–November 4, 2026
Historic Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills will be transformed with elaborate floral installations inspired by fashion, history, and HBO’s The Gilded Age, combining flowers, period style, and one of L.A.’s most beautiful estates.
The Brewery Artwalk
November 7 – 8, 2026
The Brewery Artwalk is a free, twice-yearly open-studio weekend at the sprawling Brewery Arts Complex near Downtown Los Angeles. More than 100 resident artists open their working and living spaces to visitors, offering a rare opportunity to meet the artists, see paintings, photography, sculpture, ceramics, and mixed-media work, and purchase art directly from its creators.
The historic 16-acre complex occupies the former Pabst Blue Ribbon brewery, making wandering through the industrial buildings and artists’ lofts part of the experience. Admission and parking are free, and hours are typically 11 a.m.–6 p.m. both days.

Fritz Coleman Unassisted Residency at the El Portal Theater in North Hollywood

This is a fun ongoing show at the historic El Portal Theatre in NOHO. Fritz Coleman is best known as the former local weatherman for NBCLA Channel 4, is the unofficial Mayor of Toluca Lake, and a very funny comedian. Read my review of the show here. Letter from David – Santa Monica Playhouse

Part memoir and part love letter to the 70s and 80s Glam Rock Era. Letter from David is the true comedic and moving autobiographical journey from actor and professional magician, Albie Selznick, as he chronicles his youthful quest to work with his idol, David Bowie.
It blends storytelling, magic, and memories, and captures the highs and lows of chasing a dream set against the cultural backdrop of the era’s theatre, music, and club scenes.
Albie Selznick created and performed in Smoke and Mirrors, the long-running production that the Los Angeles Times called “a brilliant theatrical magic show”. A lifetime member of The Magic Castle, Albie curated and hosted Magic Monday, a weekly showcase of rotating magicians that played for five straight years at the Santa Monica Playhouse.
For three decades, Selznick performed with his theatrical circus trio The Mums. The Herald Examiner wrote, “The Mums do for the art of juggling and magic what Elvis did for Rock and Roll.”As an actor, Selznick consistently works on both stage and screen. He can currently be seen as Michael Jackson’s plastic surgeon in the film Michael.

Hidden Gem Museums
The Nethercutt Collection – Sylmar – The Nethercutt Collection is a world-renowned museum showcasing over 250 prestigious and pristine vintage American and European automobiles, along with rare mechanical musical instruments and antique furniture. Founded by J.B. Nethercutt, the collection is celebrated for its immaculate restorations and includes iconic masterpieces housed in both a dedicated museum and a grand salon.

Museum of Neon Art – Glendale (known as MONA) is a delightful art museum that includes neon signs from historical locations and electric and kinetic art. It is located directly across the street from the Americana shopping center in Glendale. Read my review.
The Hilbert Museum – Orange, California – Located near Chapman University in Orange, California, the Hilbert Museum of California Art is a premier institution specializing in California Scene painting, animation, and narrative art from the 20th century to the present. Valley Relics Museum, Van Nuys – Located in two airplane hangars at the Van Nuys Airport, the Valley Relics Museum is a pop-culture repository dedicated to the history of the San Fernando Valley. It features a vast collection of neon signs, vintage BMX bikes, restaurant memorabilia, and classic vehicles, offering a nostalgic journey through Southern California’s commercial and cultural history. Fabulous flea markets
The Rose Bowl Flea Market is enormous and takes place on the second Sunday of each month at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. It has been happening for 50 years and is enormous!
