I’m Rebecca Forstadt Olkowski, and I’m a little old lady who was living in Altadena (near Pasadena) until it burned down in January 2025. But, despite that setback, I LOVE L.A. and am now staying in Sherman Oaks.
What’s amazing about Los Angeles is that it is a world in itself. You can find a multitude of things to do, no matter what interests you.
This blog lists my favorite places to go in Los Angeles that even your Grandma will love. And guess what? You won’t have to look good in a bikini or ride a skateboard to have a great time here.
Most Los Angeles travel blogs are geared toward young people who want to hang out at the trendiest bars or find places to show off their tushies. Hey, we were all young once, right? But just because I’m older doesn’t mean I’ll be writing about the local senior center or where to go to manage your dementia. This site is for people of all ages who want to make the most of their time in this fabulous city.
I adore visiting botanical gardens, museums, art events, the theatre, sightseeing, the mountains, the ocean, walking tours, and enjoying amazing cuisine. One thing I adore is learning the history of Los Angeles, because it has a colorful and fascinating past.
Occasionally, I take side trips in California and write about them too.
What you may not know about me
I moved to Los Angeles from Denver in 1958, so I’m almost a native of California. My family and I lived in the San Fernando Valley, San Diego, and Orange County. I studied acting in high school and college, and after a three-year stint doing melodramas at Knott’s Berry Farm, I moved back to L.A. in the mid-70s to pursue a career as an actress and have lived here ever since.
I’ve worked as a professional actor, best known for doing voiceovers for cartoons, films, and TV for over 40 years. In 2008, I took up blogging as a creative outlet. In addition to this site, I am also the founder of BabyBoomster.com, a lifestyle blog for active older women over 50.
